Ukraine: civil war or compromise?

Violence in in central Kyiv appears to be pushing Ukraine towards civil war. <br /><br />The pro-Western opposition accuses the government of corruption and brutality against its members. President Viktor Yanukovich and Russia say the opposition is attempting to hijack a legitimately elected government. <br /><br />The West offers a bailout if he accepts a reform-minded government. <br /><br />Could Yanukovich yet reject a deal with the West if the IMF keeps insisting on currency flexibility and slashing utility subsidies? Or could the opposition accept an uncomfortable compromise to trade prison cells for the halls of power?
